Always make sure the surface you are painting is clean and dry
Always make sure you have enough paint to finish the job. as good as the mixing machines are there could be a slight difference in color from can to can.
If you have a fungus or mould problem try a 3:1 household bleach mix, cover the whole area and when almost dry rinse off with warm soapy water. (Take extra care with all bleaches and read the directions for use on the bottle before using.)
When using rollers and brushes in emulsion, instead of washing them everyday, wrap them securely in a carrier bag until you have finished the job.
Instead of cleaning brushes you have used in oil based paints or varnishes (undercoat and gloss) with white spirits everyday just dip them up to the stock in a container of water until you have finished the job.
If  the woodwork you are painting has gone yellow because of smoking or cooking, cleaning the surfaces with sugar soap first will remove the nicotine or oils sitting on the surface stopping it from bleeding through and staining.
Never cut corners with the preparation work. The better your prep' work the better the finish product.
If you are replacing and painting skirting boards after laying a new floor i.e. laminate, slip some lining paper under them before fixing. When it comes to painting it is so much cleaner with any drips from the brush landing on the paper and not on the floor. when you have finished painting slide the paper out and you have a perfect line.
When stripping wallpaper make sure the paper is soaked for long enough using hot soapy water. If you try stripping the paper before it has soaked enough it could end up taking longer and you will end up with lots of little digs in the walls which will need more preparation.
